Post-Production techniques and processes task 8
This is my front cover:
This is my double paged spread:
Suitability of front cover
For my front cover, I ensured my layout was kept clean and simple this allows my front cover to be simple yet effective and meets the requirements of my brief and is suitable for my target audience. The genre of my magazine is presented through my clear main image of roses. Pink roses have connotations of love and compassion which perfectly links to my genre of romance. My masthead “kiss & tell” links directly to my romance genre as kiss is a physical way of displaying love and affection to your partner. My image on my front cover as well as my cover lines are all relative to the content within my double-paged spread which allows a smooth transition between the front cover and double paged spread, this allows the audience to find the articles they are most excited to read easily. The theme is presented through my fronts which are elegant and flows which are connotations of love and romance, these fonts are used in my cover lines which are simple yet effective. My colour scheme of reds, pink and burnt oranges have connotations of love and passion which are key themes in romance films.
One area I could improve on is the background picture being too busy for some people to comprehend, so if I were to do it again I would consider having a plain or simpler background to make it easy to read for some people, however I feel as though the background is unique and perfectly links to my genre of romance.
Suitability of my double paged spread
For my double paged spread, similar to my front cover I have kept the layout clear and simple, this is to ensure that it isn’t overwhelming for the reader which would make them not want to read but also so its easy to understand for my target audience so it fits the client brief. I have made my main article stand out by having the title of that article in a larger txt compared to other articles. The genre of my magazine was clearly considered when designing the layout of my double paged spread as I added red hearts around the articles and pictures, as they are common iconography in the romantic films. I also ensured that I used columns and grids this allows the articles to be easy to read and understand and it also allowed me to structure the layout. The colour scheme was also reflected in my double paged spread of pinks and reds to continue the romance theme. I also selected my double paged spread to be pages 22 and 23 this is suitable as it shows its one of the feature pages and articles within this magazine, this also means that people have to read all of the beginning pages of my magazine before they get to the feature article so they don’t miss out on all of my other great pages.
One area I could improve on is having less text as it’s quite dense and instead having a feature picture in my double paged spread as my pictures are quite small. This would allow for more room so the text could be bigger and easier to understand. However I feel that all my text is interesting and exciting for my audience. In conclusion, if I were to create it again I would include less articles and more pictures.
