Purposes

Inform - In my magazine I intend to inform my readers on new and upcoming romance films, this as a result will allow my readers to be updated on all the new films that they will be interested in. I also intend to inform my readers on new North London independent studios romance film as a way of giving the company exposure and allowing my readers to be introduced to new media platforms that are less mainstream.

Entertain - In my magazine I intend to entertain my viewers through readers participation, in my magazine I will include fan fiction sent in about new romance films. By using fan fiction made by readers based on the film in the magazine it will not only entertain them by the readers making and sending in their work but also it will make my audience feel included.

Promote - In my magazine I will be promoting a North London independent company called London North studios, as this company is less mainstream I will be able to gain access to inside scoops and Q&A's for my magazine which will allow my readers to be exposed to new content. This will encourage my readers to watch more films made by North London studios which increases awareness and popularity for the North London Film scene.

Advertise - In my magazine I will advertise two streaming services which is where my readers can watch the films that I promote. I will be advertising Max's streaming service as well as a new streaming service called L.O.Z studios.

Form, Genre  and content of the Product

In my magazine I have chosen create a romance genre film magazine. My whole magazine will be focused and based on romance films. This genre is perfect for my primary target audience of 12- 19 year old women as romance films are typically targeted and favoured by younger females. I will promote a wide range of romance films such as, teenage romance, romance comedies this will allow my readers to be engaged and be excited each month to see what romance films I am promoting.

I have chosen to produce 40 pages per issue as this amount I feel is perfect for my primary audience to ensure they do not get bored or overwhelmed with the content, also I feel my audience would prefer a glossy finish on my front and back cover as it will make it look more high quality and appealing.

I intend to produce a print and online magazine my online magazine will replicate the print version which will be separated into tabs and sub tabs based on the different headings and sub headings in the magazine. My print magazine will cost £4 as I feel this is affordable for my target audience, for my loyal fans I would suggest them paying for my yearly subscription of £24 this subscription contains 13 magazines as people who bought the subscription will get a free extra magazine.

My colour scheme will be predominately colours of red, pinksand burnt oranges. The colour pink has connotations of not only love which is a key theme in all romance films but also femininity which is perfect for my target audience as I aim to appeal to females. The colour Red is associated with the heart, which is the centre of love and emotion and that is why i feel that these colours will perfectly link to the genre.

In my magazine I will include Interviews from cast and crew on the latest and upcoming romance films this will enable my readers to be informed on what the new films are about and if they will enjoy watching it. Furthermore, I will include a QR code in my magazine which will take my readers to the online magazine where they will be able to leave reviews which is where readers will be able to gather further information about films from people with similar interests to them.

My USP consist of including hand made fan fiction and reviews from the romance films I promoted in the previous months magazine. This way my readers will feel included and headed and they will also find people who have the same points as them.

Fonts

I have chosen that this will be my masthead font, I feel this serif font is perfect as it has connotations of elegance from the decorative lines which links directly to the romance genre.

I have chosen that this will be perfect for my coverlines and titles in my double paged spread as well as coverlines as its similar to my masthead so fits well with the theme.

I have chosen that my body copy will be in this font as its easy for my main target audience to understand and yet still has the flowy nature of the masthead and subheading fonts.

Target Audience

My primary target is 12-19 year old women who can directly relate and sympathise with the romance movies I will promote. This age group have more freedom and spare time to reader and participate in my magazine, this will result in my magazine having a loyal and attentive fanbase. Also at this age they will have a disposal income which will allow them to pay for the magazine and or subscription.

My secondary target audience is 20-35 year old women who will be able to reminisce their teenage years and be able to sympathise with the content included or women who are looking for an easy watch film. This audience are more likely to buy the magazine sporadically and not the subscription, also as they will have a disposable income they will be able to pay £4 each time.

My magazine will be targeted for all women so all ethnicities and races will be shown throughout to make all women feel welcome to read and be included. My magazine is targeted all working/middle class as its affordable especially if they buy the subscription.

New film Release & new streaming service

I will be promoting a new film release called Starlit Promises made by North London studios in mill hill which is being streamed on L.O.Z stream studios. This romance film is new and upcoming and I will be including a review from the premier, discussing the trailer, actors and an exclusive Q&A about the makings of the film.

Alongside this I will also be promoting a new upcoming romance film called we live in time which will be streamed on (HBO) Max which is a very famous streaming service. I will include reviews on this film, discussing the trailer and actors.

The current streaming service I will be promoting has been recently regenerated, Max is new and streams in America, Caribbean and parts of Europe. This is ideal for my magazine as I will be able to work with and help re-expose their platform as well as this new independent streaming service. People in this country will be able to broaden their variety of streaming service, this will intrigue and excite my readers.

Resources and Personnel

For my magazine I will need a camera, this will ensure that my photos are high quality and appealing to my readers. I will also require a photographer to take my photos to make sure my pictures are at the highest standard they can be, this way I can ensure that I will have a reliable high quality magazine, which is worth buying. I will also need a laptop which is equipped with an adobe photoshop licence, so that my designer can use tools such as blur, add text, smudge, add fonts ext. Furthermore, I require a model to pose for my pictures as well as a stylist which will do the hair, makeup and costume for my model. I will also need an editor to make my website for my online version of my magazine, this as a result ensures that my online magazine will be as high quality as the print version.

Direct Competitors

In the movie magazine industry I feel there is a big gap for a romance magazine audience. Romance is one of the most popular genres and still there isn't a movie magazine targeted for that audience.

On the other hand, some movie magazines promote a wide range of genres and sometimes they promote the occasional romance magazine. For example Empire focuses on blockbuster, hollywood and high budget films, whereas I will be focuses on not only local north London romance films but also high end romance films. I will also have a USP that includes readers fan fiction which includes my readers which is different to competitors. Similarly to empire magazine who mainly promote action films I will only promote romance films.

About Empire

Empire is the UK's best-loved movie brand and home to the world's biggest movie magazine. Across web, print, podcasts, and live events, Empire brings you the very best entertainment news and reviews from a hugely passionate team of dedicated film experts.

From breaking movie and TV news to a vast archive of review and in-depth features on releases past and present, Empire has everything you need to keep up with the very latest goings-on in Hollywood and beyond.

Another film magazine competitor is Total film magazine, this magazines primary target audience is ages 19-34 whereas my target audience is slightly younger such as 12-25 year olds. For this reason I will take inspiration from this magazine and modify it for a younger audience. Every month Total film includes chats with directors and actors and as a result I am taking inspiration from them and including it in you magazine.

Distribution Methods

Due to my target audience being 12-25 year olds I have decided to distribute my magazine in places I know that they will socialise, such as local coffee shops, youth clubs and libraries inside and outside of school. I have also decided to have my magazine in independent local cinemas as the films I promote will are made by independent companies will be screened in those cinemas. Another place I would be distributing my magazine to is local North London film festivals, this would expose my magazine to new readers as its a place where I would be able to attract loyal film fans.
I intend to have my magazine distributed locally in North London areas primarily, this is due to my magazine promoting the local North London film industry and as a result I will be able to reach my intended audience. Furthermore, after reaching the North London area, I would then start to think of distributing my magazine on a mass scale.
I will distribute them in Mill hill, Finchley and Barnet first, this is due to it being closer to me and easier to distribute.

Marketing Methods

One way I will promote my magazine is by paying for posters to be on bus stops, this is due to my target audience being one of the most frequent users of public transport as as a result I will be able to attract my intended readers. Another way I will promote my magazine is through social media such as Instagram and TikTok, my target audience are always on their phones and as a result by advertising my magazine online I will be able to attract my audience easily.
Furthermore, I will use a local North London radio station to promote my magazine, I intend to pay them to mention my magazine on the radio this is a perfect way to advertise my film magazine as I will be distributing locally and I will be able to gain a wider audience is the area.
